UPDATE (2:55 p.m. Tuesday): A report on the incident from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office indicates that deputies responded to Mossy Oak Lane around 6:19 p.m. after receiving a call about a dog bite.
The victim, a Melinda Martinez, suffered “severe lacerations,” that there was damage to a window at her home as well and that the dog was “field euthanized.” There will be further investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: Lee County sheriff’s deputies were forced to shoot a dog which had apparently attacked its owner in Lemon Springs Monday evening, the Rant has learned.
A woman in the Mossy Oak Lane area of Lemon Springs, which is off Peach Orchard Road in southern Lee County, was attacked by a pitbull dog which she reportedly owned, according to reports. Responding deputies had to shoot the dog after attempts to pepper spray it apparently proved ineffective. The dog died as a result of the shooting, sources tell the Rant.
The woman’s injuries were apparently serious but not life threatening.

Pit bulls maim and kill thousands of chihuahuas each year in the USA. A chihuahua has NEVER killed a pit bull. Use your head for something other than a HAT RACK. And stop blaming the victim because you love violent pibbles.

It’s NOT about constantly reporting ONLY Pits/Pit Mixes because these are the ones that are being pushed out of Shelters/Rescues with previous history of bites but the “Save Them All” isn’t helping this breed nor innocent victims. DNA/Genetics will ALWAYS prevail regardless of how they’re raised, loved, trained etc.. What makes this originally designed fighting to the death breed so lethal is just that..FIGHT to the DEATH! Just like Border Collies naturally herd even from dogs that were bred/raised in the City and none ever were from working lines but will still herd anything that moves including children in a yard. You CAN’T breed, love, train genetics away.. With these “Bully Breeds/Pits the damages done are lethal if not totally life altering. WHY would anyone desire this breed as they’re NOTHING close to a regular canine? These dogs were NEVER intended to be pets and insisting on breeding/owning them only puts innocent people in jeopardy. Statistics DON’T lie!! Yes, any dog can bite…Pits/Bully Breeds will send you in a Life Flight Helicopter ride or ambulance if you’re lucky enough to survive initial attack.. Sure, just the kind of dog I want as a family pet!
The “No Kill Movement” is a huge mistake.. not all dogs deserve to live. It is now only a matter of time until these starry eyed rescue organizations “see the light” and change course.. such a paradigm shift will likely result from multiple civil lawsuits accompanied by court judgments that move these organizations to bankruptcy… unfortunately, these folks should change course because they recognize that dangerous dog breeds have no place in civilized society and should be phased out through mandatory sterilization and “natural extinction”

Those dogs are dangerous. Had one since he was a pub and was treated as a member of the family. Wonderful dog even after my son was born. Slept next to his crib every night and wouldn’t let any visitor to our home go near it. Dog turned 6 years old and just snapped. My son was crawling across the floor and dog tried to attack him. Thang got I got hold of dog before he got my son. That was the end of pit bulls coming on our property
Omfg people. Wake up already. Keep blaming the dog. I have a personal interest in this as the lady that was bit is the grandmother of my oldest two children who also live in the home. The house is very small and the dogs are kept in kennels majority of the day. This has been an ongoing issue and it all stems down to the dogs being too confined. There is 4-5 pit and pit mix, male and female dogs in the house and something like this happens more often than it should. Almost every time one of the females go into heat. Unfortunately their compassion for the bully breed and animals in general outweighed their common sense. I wish there was a way to get my children to realize this is not a safe home for them but at 17 and 15 they’d rather stay there than live under dads rules. Yes, the dog deserved to be shot but NO not all pits are bad. I’ve been raising them for the last 25 years and have NEVER had an issue. Blaming the breed is like blaming the fork for making you a fatass.
