School resource officers at Lee County High School on Tuesday arrested a Cameron teenager who was allegedly on campus without authorization after finding a pistol in his vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s office, the resource officer at Lee County High School was “notified of an unauthorized person on campus” and later encountered 16-year-old Dennis Zabala of Cameron “in the company of a Lee County High student.”
“After a conversation with Zabala, school officials learned he also had a vehicle on campus. After a search of his vehicle by school officials a pistol was found inside Zabala’s vehicle,” a sheriff’s department press release reads.
It’s unclear where Zabala is enrolled in school, but he has a Harnett County address. Deputies charged him with possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a firearm by a minor, and first degree trespassing. He is in custody at the Lee County Jail under a $35,000 bond.
