A Lee County woman has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly shooting a dog that “kept barking.”
Cynthia Susan Gunter, 58, of Steel Bridge Road, faces counts of cruelty to animals and injury to personal property, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. She was charged on Tuesday.
According to Lee County sheriff’s deputies, Bradley Beavers reported on May 28 that he had been “practicing with his dog,” a coon hound, “on leased property” and found the dog shot behind Gunter’s home on Steel Bridge Road. After questioning, Gunter “admitted shooting the animal because it kept barking,” deputies said.
Cruelty to animals is a class 1 misdemeanor in North Carolina, punishable by up to 120 days in jail and/or a fine.
Well that’s attempted murder and should be treated as such!! Report it to Federal authorities as well. This infuriates me to no end…..look at her……I’d shoot her…. disgusting!!

As sad and horrifying as this is, I have known Cindy since I moved here in 1981. She has obviously fallen on hard times and lost her way. At her core she is a good person. Extending compassion to her, Mr. Beavers and his coonhound.

I have known Cindy a really long time and I am relatively sure that she was most likely defending her cats. Dogs will be dogs but they should not be allowed to go on private property and chase/hurt someone’s pets. People have the right to defend their “property” . (In North Carolina pets are considered “property”) I am a cat lover and a dog lover and people should have the right to protect their cherished pets….PERIOD.

Pets are not protected by the law as well,as they should be.Several years ago we had a beautiful Persian cat,which I put on my screened porch so he could get some fresh air.15 minutes later my neighbor dog,tore through the screen and took the cat to the yard and broke his neck.I was told by the Broadway police that dogs would be dogs.My cat was inside the screen porch.
