Republican Eric Davidson filed for election to one of four seats on the Lee County Board of Education Monday, the fourth member of his party to do so.

“We can do better for the students in the Lee County School System,” Davidson said in a press release sent to The Rant. “I am a candidate for election to the Board of Education who is seeking student success through a cooperative effort among students, schools, and society. I will bring to the Board a fresh perspective with a new voice and a new vision that puts students first and focuses on student achievement.”

According to the press release, Davidson has been a secondary school teacher and an administrator, coach, and athletic director. He has spent the last six years as an adjunct instructor at Central Carolina Community College and is a two-time graduate of Campbell University.

Davidson is the fourth Republican to file for the four available school board seats in the 2020 election. Republicans Sandra Bowen, incumbent Sherry Womack, and Todd Miller have filed to date. Four Democratic candidates, including incumbents Patrick Kelly and Lynn Smith and newcomers Jamey Laudate and Tom Frye, filed on Dec. 2. The top four vote getters will win the four seats.

Filing for the 2020 election ends on Dec. 20.
