Reives II

State Rep. Robert Reives II, a Sanford native who now represents Chatham County and part of Durham County in the North Carolina state House of Representatives, will seek the role of House Democratic leader when the General Assembly reconvenes.

The information was included in a WRAL piece published on Friday about the decision by Wake County Rep. Darren Jackson to step aside after the party lost seats in the chamber in the 2020 election.

Reives was appointed to represent District 54 – which at that time was comprised of Chatham and part of Lee County – in January of 2014 and elected to a full term later that year (the district was redrawn in 2017 to remove the Lee County precincts). He became deputy leader of the Democrats’ state house caucus in December of 2016.

House Democrats will meet in December to formally elect their leadership team.
