Commercial developers have proposed a Sheetz gas station at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Center Church Road, according to documents on file with the Sanford-Lee County Planning Department.

The proposal, from Massachusetts-based Arista Development, calls for the demolition of existing buildings on the site, which is currently a small shopping strip that includes Tramway Barber Shop. The 6,000 square foot gas station/convenience store/fast food location would feature a drive through and 40 parking spaces. The project is not yet listed on the company’s roster of “active projects.”
Notes from the Sanford-Lee County Planning Department’s Technical Review Committee indicate the property would need to be annexed into the Sanford city limits in order to be developed as proposed, a move that would require action by the Sanford City Council. Only a small portion of the property is currently in the city limits.

But the question is: Does Sanford really NEED this???
Why would we not want it? Better than the derelict structure that is there now.
Yes we need this. The Pantry, our home town business, never gives Lee Co. A break in price so bring Sheetz on. Competition is good.
Yes , we need this , CircleK /Pantry stores need some competition in tramway area
Circle K controls the price of gas here and we outside competition to bring Circle K price inline. I would drive to Tramway to buy their gas over C K.
Lillington has a Sheetz & CircleK near each other , it is really nice & their gas is cheaper than CircleK
I live in NW PA & have been a Sheetz customer for over 40 years, having been to about 40 of their stores, in PA, Ohio, WVA, VA, & MD after being a 7-11 customer & think that Sheetz is the best thing to happen since sliced bread ! Once you get one, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without one !
I love me some Sheetz! My wife and I go there a lot when we visit my parents in Winston-Salem. I would say no we don’t need one if it was just another gas station and car wash but it is that plus a restaurant. The food is so good! I mean bad for your health but good every once in a while. They have a beer cave or soda cave if you’re in a dry county. It will definitely be something new and cool in the area! Every Sheetz we’ve been to is usual hopping.
As far as gas goes, Sheetz also offers a reward card which gives you 3 cents off of gas every day. No checking account required. No special debt/credit card required. Usually its gas price are good even without the rewards card.
Sheets is a small town company (Altoona, PA), just like The Pantry once was. They carry great products, a lot of selection, and help drive prices down wherever they go. Get the app, order ahead…I think you will love it. They are a benefit to an area. Even have healthy food choices. As a native of Lee County, I say this is good change.
