With the opening of the new Lee County Library on Bragg Street in sight, county government has placed the current library building in downtown Sanford on the market.

The building’s sale price is $3,85 million and will be available for occupancy once the new facility at 1740 Bragg Street – next to O.T. Sloan Park – is completed. The current library building is located at 107 Hawkins Avenue.

According to a press release from county government, the “masonry constructed building with a distinct architectural style offers 19,246 square feet of conference/meeting rooms, offices and flex space. The building is located on 1.34 acres and is served by public utilities including water, sewer, natural gas, electricity, telephone, and internet.”

The county’s GIS site shows the library was built in 1978 and has a tax value – including the land – of $1,918,200. The Board of Commissioners approved a bond package in 2024 that included $22 million for the new library. The project total is $24 million.

Those with questions about the property or who want to schedule a tour should contact Assistant County Manager Jennifer Gamble at (919) 718-4605 Ext. 5507 or jgamble@leecountync.gov.
