Temple_Sloan_3Raleigh businessman Temple Sloan III, whose family name remains prominent in Lee County, was among several of the state Senate’s nominees for the UNC Board of Governors, according to a recent report in the News & Observer.

Sloan was the CEO of Raleigh-based General Parts, Inc., an auto parts company which Advance Auto acquired in 2014.

He is the grandson of O.T. Sloan Sr., who served for years on the city of Sanford’s recreation commission and for whom the county’s O.T. Sloan Park on Bragg Street is named.

Sloan’s father, O.T. Sloan Jr., donated funds to Lee County in 2007 for the purchase of a nine acre addition to the park.

The Senate will elect eight of its 16 nominations to the UNC board. The state House will do the same. That body’s nominations were announced Thursday.
