Libations logo.F2aA store specializing in fine wine and craft beer will open its doors next month on Chatham Street in downtown Sanford, the Rant has learned.

Business partners Ryan Elliott, Kevin Foushee and Chas Post will open Libations at 139 Chatham Street in mid to late September. The store will consist of two sections – wine and craft beer will be available for sale in the front section, while a taproom in the back will offer a selection of beers on tap either by the glass or by the crowler, and select wines by the glass.

“We’re not a bar, so there’ll be a maximum number of drinks a visitor can have, but we wanted to offer people a chance to taste some things they might not otherwise be able to find locally,” said Post, a local attorney who is a member of the Sanford City Council. “Craft beer is a huge industry in North Carolina and around the country, and we think there’s a market for it here in Sanford. But whether it’s beer or wine, and whether it’s rare or not, we’re going to offer people something that will fit any budget.”

The announcement follows a Tuesday night vote on zoning regulations by the Sanford City Council – Post said he recused himself and asked city staff to treat him the same as it would any other applicant – which allows certain types of retail businesses to allow the consumption of alcohol on premises.

Post said a website and social media channels announcing the official opening date are in the works.
