Perry Brothers Auto Service, a family-owned business established in 1933 which has two locations in Sanford and another four in Southern Pines, Smithfield, Dunn, and Oxford, was purchased Thursday by Whiteville-headquartered Black’s Tire Service, the Rant has learned.

The stores will continue to bear the Perry Brothers name for the time being and major staffing changes are not expected.

According to the Perry Brothers website, the company was established in 1933 “when Hugh R. Perry purchased a service station and started selling Goodyear tires. His sons, Hugh P., Frank G., and Paul took over the operation.”

With the acquisition, Black’s Tire Service now boasts more than 40 locations across North and South Carolina. Like Perry Brothers, Black’s is a family-owned, small town-based venture which has been in business for close to a century.

Perry Brothers’ Main Street location in Sanford posted on Facebook about the acquisition Wednesday morning, stating “ONWARD AND UPWARD, ALL IN!”
