Rant co-founders Billy Liggett and Gordon Anderson will participate as a Rant-sponsored team in the cornhole tournament at Saturday’s Downtown StreetFest, the Rant has learned.
The tournament will be held at Depot Park from 2 to 4 p.m. and is sponsored by the Smoke & Barrel. There is a $10 entry fee, and there are apparently prizes to be had.
According to a press release from the Rant, Liggett cornholed competitively at the collegiate level (when the game was still known as “dadhole“) before suffering a debilitating neck injury and leaving the game, allegedly for good. He makes his return to the pitcher’s box for the first time in nearly two decades. Liggett recruited Anderson by duplicitously claiming to him that cornhole was a relative of 3D chess.
“I bring nothing to the table athletically. My participation in this event is strictly for the purposes of fulfilling terms of a contractual obligation which I inherited from the prior administration. Any other questions on this matter should be directed to my partner, Mr. Liggett,” Anderson said when reached for comment. “LPH.”
Liggett denied any such contract, then quickly changed the subject to his pre-game preparation.
“Family, religion, friendship. These are the demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in dadhole,” he said. “When opportunity knocks, you don’t want to be driving to the maternity hospital or sitting in some phoney-baloney church … or synagogue. Any questions?”
