Hugger Mugger, Sanford’s first brewery (229 Wicker St. in downtown) opened at 4 p.m. today to a big crowd — many longing to get out after two days homebound during this weeks’ snowstorm.
The bar at the front of the brewery was full, while most of the tabletops toward the back were occupied as well. To those seeing the building for the first time, the first thing that stands out is its sheer size. The space leaves a lot of room for add-ons in the future.
But that’s not what you’re curious about. You want to know if the beer’s good (it’s great) and what the place looks like. Click through the photo gallery below, and tell your friends.
Hugger Mugger is open again at 4 p.m. Friday, then noon on Saturday.

I am happy for growth in Sanford, lord knows we need it. But seriously, can we please get something for the sober crowd??? We don’t need anything else that impairs human judgment. Book stores, for one, I’d be over the moon for. A good, decent, bookshop that doubles as a coffeehouse, that’s open LATE for the swing shifters, or nightowl crowd. All that’s open after 11 pm on any given night is friggin Waffle House or bars. 🙄😣
Please go to pages 80-81 of the February 2018 issue of Our State magazine for a lead to a good RANT article.
Sincerely,
Charles and Martha Oldham
