Former chairman of the Lee County Board of Education Shawn Williams said in a Facebook post Saturday that his daughter is recovering after been injured in a drive-by shooting on James Street in Sanford. Williams said there were also three children in house, none of whom were hit:
Police had not issued a report or any press release about the incident as of early Saturday afternoon.
Williams served on the Lee County Board of Education for a term and a half in the late 2000s and early 2010s, including two years as chairman. He announced last fall that he was planning to open a charter school in Lee County in 2019.

James Street, unfortunately, is no stranger to gun crimes in recent years. It was the site of the 2016 shooting death of 18-year-old Trevon Marquette Johns. Urbano Garcia-Sanchez, 17, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. In May of last year, three men were arrested by Sanford Police for stealing weapons and shooting them near the corner of James and Walden streets.
