$7,500 is a lot of change, but that’s the goal for a server at one downtown restaurant who is seeking to fund a sick child’s wish via the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Donna Potter, who works at Local Joe’s Tap & Grill in downtown Sanford, is participating this spring in Make-A-Wish’s Trailblaze Challenge, a 26-and-a-half mile hike along northwestern North Carolina’s Sauratown Trail which raises money for the charity each year.

Overall, the event aims to raise $200,000 to grant more than 200 wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses. Potter and her team are aiming to raise $7,500 of that and as of this writing have collected just over $3,000. And although you can make donations online at both her team and personal fundraising pages, Potter also decided to use her job as a server at Local Joe’s to help the cause as well – she’s keeping a jar behind the bar for patrons to donate any change they might want to. So go eat, drink, and do some good.
