So at the risk of The Rant becoming the “Britton Blog” , we have an update from our Monday night recap of Britton Buchanan’s performance on The Voice’s Top 11 show.

Britton, of course, made it to the Top 10. He has three more weeks of competition to make it to the Final Four and, ultimately, the championship shows on May 21-22. Based on his numbers and his popularity, it’s a good bet that the young man from Sanford will ride this train until the final stop.

That Britton advanced isn’t huge news around here — I mean, it’s big … but we’re kinda getting used to the idea that he’s safe for now. The news after Tuesday, instead, was his performance with teammates Jackie and Christiana and his coach, the great Alicia Keys, in the group performances.

The foursome sang The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” — a classic, and a song more suited to Britton’s tastes than the two Ed Sheeran tunes he’s performed so far. Electric guitar in hand, Britton was handed the opening lines to the song, and his short duet with Keys — which included a moment of fun that made the R&B star seem to blush — was the highlight of the three-minute performance.

So … What’s next?

The Top 10 will perform next Monday, and two contestants will be eliminated Tuesday night. The Top 8 will then be sliced in half to the Top 4 on May 14-15. The championships will run with two two-hour shows May 21-22.

According to Nielsen ratings, viewership for The Voice this season has averaged around 10 million per night. The live shows have done a little worse than the blind auditions (as happens every), but the ratings are strong. By comparison, American Idol has averaged closer to 8 million viewers per night.
