Sanford police have arrested a Raleigh man in connection with a shooting in downtown Sanford last weekend that left one dead and six wounded.

Dominique Devonn Williams, 20, of Raleigh is charged with first degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Travis McLean, which occurred around 2 a.m. June 24 outside the Sanford Latin Dance studio at the intersection of Carthage and Steele streets in downtown Sanford.

Authorities said the studio had been rented for a birthday party and the shooting took place as attendees were leaving the building.

Police didn’t release any further information other than to say the case remains under investigation. Because six people other than McLean were wounded, and Williams was only charged with murder, it’s at least possible that other suspects will be arrested.
