Sanford resident Allison Podlogar, who has performed on stages across central North Carolina and whose appearance at New York City’s Carnegie Hall we featured in 2017, is a nominee for BroadwayWorld Raleigh’s “best featured actress in a play” award.

Podlogar, a sophomore at Southern Lee High School, is nominated for her role in the Judson Theater Company’s production of The Miracle Worker. She currently leads the other nominees by about 10 percentage points and you can vote using your email address here. It takes a minute, but supporting young local talent seems to be in Sanford’s DNA, whether it’s a contestant on the Voice or a heavy metal musician landing on national charts.
It’s unclear how long voting will continue before winners are announced.
Podlogar has been acting since 2011, when she got her start as “Small Alice” in the Temple Theatre’s Summer Conservatory production of Alice in Wonderland. Since then, she’s returned to the Temple multiple times (A Christmas Carol, As You Like It, The Tempest) and also appeared in productions with other professional and semi-professional organizations such as the Judson Theatre Company in Pinehurst (To Kill a Mockingbird), Fayetteville’s Gilbert Theatre (The Secret Garden), the Raleigh Little Theatre (Rutherford Wolf), and the North Carolina Symphony (The Music Man).
She can be seen around the 25 second mark in this video from the Gilbert Theatre’s 2017 production of The Secret Garden:
