The Sandhills Broadcasting Group, formed by longtime area golf professional Jon Hockaday, has acquired ownership of the WFJA FM and WWGP AM stations which broadcast into Lee and multiple surrounding counties from the Tramway area.
“I’ve been fortunate to have been a part of the station for the last 27 years and I love the business. It’s an exciting challenge that I look forward to,” Hockaday said in a press release issued by the stations. “WFJA and WWGP have been a part of the Sandhills and Lee County community for a long time. I hope to carry that on.”

Hockaday assumes ownership from Susan Feindel, whose late husband Richard acquired the stations in 1994 after working there since 1968.
“The two stations were part of Richard and me for such a long time and it was tough to let it go,” Feindel said. “I’m pleased that Jon is the one that will carry on with WFJA and WWGP and I look forward to watching the stations continue to grow and remain an important part of our community.”
Hockaday has been providing play-by-play coverage of local high school sports for the stations since 1992 and said listeners should expect the same format they’ve become accustomed to over the years. The stations can be found online at www.classichitsandoldies.com.
