Sanford Police acted quickly in arresting a suspect they say is responsible for shooting a pair of brothers, killing one of them, on Saturday night.
Randall Joseph Craven, 16, of 759 Lower Moncure Road faces charges of first degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a handgun by a minor. Police didn’t go into detail on how they identified Craven as the person who allegedly shot Davion and Rahki Newby, but noted that a third victim – 16-year-old Malik Jamen Percell – was discovered during the course of the investigation.
A press release from the Sanford Police Department didn’t go into how Percell was located or what condition he was in, but said he was shot in the abdomen during the Saturday night incident. Davion Newby died at the scene of the shooting – room 150 of the Econo Lodge on North Horner Boulevard – and Rahki Newby was listed in critical condition at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill as of Sunday morning.
Craven is in custody at the Lee County Jail without bond and will make a first court appearance on Monday.
