City police have charged an 18 year old and a 20 year old with murder in connection with a Sunday shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

Jayden Zyonne Rodney Hodges, 18, of 2123 Hearthstone Drive in Sanford, and Elijah Lasandrus Rose, 20, of 312 Robin Hood Lane in Sanford each face charges of first degree murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Hodges and Rose are accused in a shooting that took place in the WestRidge apartment complex on Pathway Drive around 3 a.m. Sunday. Eric Thompson Jr., 29, was killed at the scene, and 22-year-old Jessie Ray was taken to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill for treatment.

Police didn’t specify what led them to Hodges and Rose or describe the circumstances that led to the shooting, but the suspects each live less than a quarter of a mile from the site of the shooting. Hodges was arrested around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, while Rose was apparently taken into custody about two hours later. Both are in custody at the Lee County Jail without bond.
