A Sanford man was robbed at gunpoint during a car ride he’d solicited from an acquaintance, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.
Deputies said the incident happened on Friday around 9:30 p.m., when Kevin Rollins, of South Steele Street in Sanford, asked an acquaintance to give him a ride. Rollins told deputies that “he was picked up as expected by Nelson Torres and David McMains.” When the trio got to the intersection of Poplar Springs Church Road and San Lee Drive, Torres is alleged to pointed a gun at Rollins and taken his wallet, cell phone and a pocket knife before making him get out of the vehicle.
Torres, 27, of 308 Winterlocken Drive, and McMains, 26, of 209 Carbonton Road, were each charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and placed in the Lee County Jail under $50,000 secured bond. A press release from the sheriff’s office didn’t specify where Torres and McMains were apprehended.
