Gov. Roy Cooper announced yesterday that all U.S. and North Carolina flags should be lowered to half-staff today in honor of Army Pvt. Andrew McLean, a Sanford teen who died before a training exercise at Fort Jackson on Sept. 10.
McLean, who graduated from Lee County High School in 2019, suffered a medical emergency while preparing for a physical training drill. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion 60th Infantry Regiment Team in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Services for Pvt. McLean will be held at the Daniel Circle Chapel in Fort Jackson on Friday.
Andrew was a recent 2019 graduate from Lee County High School. He died suddenly while serving his country.
