A woman accused in an Oct. 21 shooting on Matthews Street was apprehended ten days later attempting to cross into Mexico, the Sanford Police Department said in a press release Thursday.
21-year-old Denise Magdalena Pascual of 112 Jackson Street was extradited back to Sanford on Wednesday after being located by the U.S. Border Patrol in Hidalgo, Texas on Oct. 31. Police had announced on Oct. 28 that they had active warrants charging Pascual with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into occupied property.
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred on Oct. 21 at 501 Matthews St. in east Sanford. According to an Oct. 22 report in The Sanford Herald (subscription required), city officers responded to the Matthews Street address just after 5 p.m. the day prior and found an unidentified 38-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The Herald’s story indicated that a drive-by shooting had been reported at the same time and location, and that the victim was conscious at the time. Neighbors said they heard eight gunshots, The Herald reported.
Pascual is in the Lee County Jail under $100,000 secured bond, according to the SPD’s press release.
