“Please join us in offering our sincere condolences to the friends and family of the county resident who succumbed to COVID-19 related complications last night,” said Lee County Health Director Heath Cain. “Sadly, we are reminded that this virus remains a serious threat to public health. While recent data has shown positive signs with the decrease in new cases and percent positive tests, the public is strongly encouraged to continue following the advice and recommendations of public health professionals to help protect themselves and others from the coronavirus.”
Lee County’s numbers have trended downward in the second half of August after a start to the month that showed a large spike, and the death announced Tuesday was the first reported in nearly a month. As of Monday, there were 109 active cases, and 1,375 Lee County residents total had tested positive since the pandemic began.
