A Deep River Road man who was accused of attempted murder in November of 2019 has been charged with shooting a woman in the back, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Tommy Gene East, 67, of Deep River Road faces one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury after deputies responded to his home on Oct. 22 and found Tracey Lynn Gargon, of the same address, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back shoulder. Gargon was treated and released from UNC Hospital.
Also charged was Lawrence Eugene Arp III, 32, of Spring Branch Drive. East was placed in the Lee County Jail without bond, and Arp was jailed on $50,000 secured bond.
East was arrested on charges of attempted murder in November of 2019 for firing a gun into someone’s car at his home. At the time, East was jailed without bond, and a search of the North Carolina Court System’s website shows those charges still pending, as well as multiple drug charges in Chatham County. It was unclear Monday when and how East was released from custody on the 2019 charges.
