Lee County reported the 35th death of a resident from COVID-19 on Tuesday, the third such death reported in two days.
According to a press release from the county, the death occurred at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. No additional information was provided in accordance with federal health privacy laws.
“We are saddened to report another death in Lee County due to COVID-19,” said Lee County Health Director Heath Cain. “We offer our condolences to the family and ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. As new cases of the virus continue to climb in Lee County, we are asking the public to please follow the guidance and recommendations of the CDC that include wearing a mask, watching your distance and washing your hands to help slow the spread of COVID-19.”
The total number of residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 was approaching 2,700 on Monday afternoon, when the county released its latest update. 299 of those cases were considered active at the time.
Westfield Rehabilitation Center has 23 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Two of the three halls at the facility have been set aside as areas of isolation. The residents have not been allowed to leave the facility or have visitors since March.
On numerous occasions, Westfield staff have been observed in public NOT wearing masks. There is a serious problem with protocol at Westfield and the problem is NOT the residents. Both the administration and the staff are not adhering to CDC guidelines. The numbers do not lie.
It’s a disgrace. I just don’t understand why people don’t care. The Gospel of Matthew records Jesus’ answer: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (22:37-39).Mar 27, 2008
