Continuing our series of interviews with artists performing at the upcoming Carolina Indie Fest, this week we’re joined by Denver rock duo Addie Tonic. We also talk local news, because this is a local news podcast, friends.
Addie Tonic:
Founding members Meghann5k and Matt Youngblood spent the last 4 years touring small venues under various names and with several lineup changes before deciding on “Addie Tonic” in 2020. After a series of singles released by Indie On Air Records, the band released their debut EP, “Crashin’ Cars & Fannin’ Flames” in 2021.
Addie Tonic features front woman Meghann5k (Vocals, Guitar) and Matt Youngblood (Lead Guitar, Vocals) as a duo plus they also perform as a 4-piece electric rock band. Previously, the band has shared festival billings with the likes of national acts such as The Unlikely Candidates, CITRA, Wildermiss, Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and JoJo Hermann’s (Widespread Panic) side project, Slim Wednesday. Matt’s Minneapolis punk rock roots perfectly compliment Meghann’s Athens, GA infused songwriting style, catchy vocal melodies, and jangly rhythm guitar, blending to create a garage rock/shoegaze wall of guitar sound with a punk rock edge. Their sound is somewhere between the melancholy dreaminess of Mazzy Star and the alternative rock style of Courtney Barnett.
