City police arrested a man early Sunday morning after a non-fatal shooting on Crestview Street.

Chad Jennings, 38, of North Gulf Street faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm with a removed serial number, injury to personal property, and speeding to elude arrest.

According to a press release from the Sanford Police Department, officers responded around 4:15 a.m. Sunday to the 300 block of Crestview Street after receiving a shots fired call. While en route, officers received another call about a gunshot wound victim at Central Carolina Hospital.

When they arrived, officers reported seeing Jennings leaving the area in a vehicle at a high rate of speed. After a brief chase, Jennings is reported to have stopped without incident. At that time, officers located a firearm in the vehicle with an altered or removed serial number.

The victim, Elijio Lasandrus Hooker, 44, of Steel Bridge Road, was hit in the lower back, hip, and leg. He was treated and released from CCH.

Jennings was placed in the Lee County Jail under $125,000 secured bond.
