A man on the North Carolina Sex Offender registry was arrested Wednesday by Sanford police on child pornography charges.
James Arthur Strassburg, 72, of Chownings Drive in Sanford faces 14 counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Police began investigating Strassburg on Nov. 9 after receiving a complaint alleging he’d attempted to contact a minor via social media for the purpose of meeting in person. Police determined that Strassburg was allegedly “in possession of digital child sexual abuse material.”
Strassburg appears on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry, which indicates he registered with the state in 2012 after a 2005 conviction on child pornography charges in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Strassburg was placed in the Lee County Jail under $150,000 secured bond.
