A woman was struck by a vehicle and killed as she walked along U.S. 1 early Sunday morning, Sanford police reported.
Maybelline Ann Arzate, 27, of Pittsboro was apparently walking along the highway near its intersection with the U.S. 421 bypass around 2:15 a.m. on Sunday when she was struck by a vehicle heading north, police said. She died at the scene.
Police didn’t identify the driver, but said she was “cooperating” with the ongoing investigation. Police haven’t filed any charges.
Meanwhile, Arzate’s family appears to have set up a Gofundme campaign to pay for funeral expenses.
“She was the kind of person to put herself aside just to uplift someone else. As unkind (as) life has been to her she has always managed to overcome each battle, and she prevailed each time, always better than the last,” the page reads. “She deserved the world, but instead tried to give the world to everyone else.”
According to the police report, Arzate’s 28th birthday would have been Tuesday.
Why was she walking the hwy at 2 am, & not with some of her family ? So sad
Someone said she had an accident involving a deer. That was why she was walking.
This whole place is in dire need of sidewalks.
