The Town of Broadway has hired Evan B. Gunter as its next police chief, effective Jan. 1.
Gunter will replace outgoing Chief Todd Hinnant, who announced his retirement in September. Hinnant has been on the job in Broadway since 2006, and has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience.
A lifelong resident of Lee County, Gunter is a graduate of Lee County Senior High School and Central Carolina Community College. He joined the Broadway Police Department in 2016 and previously worked as a police officer with Johnson C. Smith University. Gunter began his career in law enforcement as a deputy with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
He was promoted to Sergeant in April of this year. Gunter and his wife, Lauren, are the proud parents of a lovely daughter, Lily.
