Two Republicans have filed for county office, one triggering a GOP primary for sheriff.

Republican Commissioner Dr. Andre Knecht filed for the District 3 seat he currently holds on the Lee County Board of Commissioners, setting up a rematch with Democrat Chuck Baker, who he ran against in 2014.

On Friday, Republican Tim Smith filed for sheriff, creating a primary with incumbent interim Sheriff Brian Estes, who was appointed to the seat following the retirement of Sheriff Tracy Carter. Estes filed for the seat in December.

Filing for the 2022 election closes at noon on Friday.
