The Wampus Cat Music Fest has been postponed, organizers announced today. The three-day festival that had scheduled 90-plus bands — including big names like Everclear, Thompson Square, Lit and Sister Hazel — attributed potential bad weather this weekend to the decision.

“We know that weather reports are often unpredictable and can change over a week,” organizers posted on the event’s Facebook site. “But for an event of this size, this is not a decision that can wait until the day before the event to be made. We must consider that stage construction was to begin mid-week and that artists and fans were traveling from all over the country.

“This is not a cancelation. It is just a postponement.”

Early forecasts are calling for “considerable cloudiness and a chance for a thunderstorm” on Friday, the scheduled opening night of the festival. Accuweather’s 14-day forecast calls for an 86-percent chance of rain and a 49-percent chance of thunderstorms. Saturday’s forecast is similar, with an 88-percent chance of rain for six hours or more and a 20-percent chance of thunderstorms.

A second post made today from Paul Surowiec, CFO at Indie On Air, brought up refunds for those who purchased tickets.

“Refunds will be available,” Surowiec wrote. “If you cannot make the new date, can’t make it next year or simply need the money back, we will be able to refund it. I just ask that you give us about a week to sort through everything and get the refund process moving. I know that nobody likes waiting, especially for money. We are doing the best we can.”

No details — including which of the bands would or could return for a make-up show — were given, though Surowiec wrote: “Please follow the bands that were slated to play. Especially the indie bands. Many of them have tour dates that were meant to take them to and from the festival. If they are playing near you, please consider going to a show and buying some merch. It will help them more than you realize.”
