The Sanford Spinners lost their third game of the season Wednesday 4-1 to the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders.
Pitcher Brent Byler gave up two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings, striking out five and walking none. Relievers Eddie Thompson and Justin Szczpinski combined for another 3.2 innings of two run baseball.
The Spinners had plenty of opportunities to score, with singles from catcher Jonah Ravelo, infielder Gage Bibey, infielder Vince Sabatino, outfielder Max Bowers, and outfielder Noah Kessler, but the team’s only run came in the seventh, with an RBI from Tyson Measamer.
The Spinners, a collegiate level summer league team in the North Carolina-based Old North State League, are now 9-3 on the 2022 season and will be back at Tramway Park next to Southern Lee High School on Thursday for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
The Spinners are off Friday before a road game Saturday against the Gliders in Raleigh. After that, they host the High Point Hushpuppies at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29 for the final game of the month.
