
Two Sanford women are in custody on charges of second degree murder in connection with the death of a three-year-old child, Sanford police said Thursday.
Jasmine Elayne Bethea, 29, and Janell Joyce Smith, 27, both of 1010 Battle St. in Sanford were each booked into the Lee County Jail Wednesday under $250,000 secured bond after a months long investigation into the April 2 death of Bethea’s child.
According to police, the child’s death was caused by Fentanyl intoxication. Officers said Bethea and Smith lived together as roommates.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.

It is absolutely tragic for an innocent child to lose their life due to these women addiction. I am hopeful North Carolina sentences them to life without parole and find the dealers who peddle this poison!
