Sanford’s Spring Lane Galleria will be home to a Tesla Supercharger Station in 2023, according to the company’s website.

North Carolina is currently home to nearly 50 such stations, with several more in the works. The Supercharger stations offer “480-volt direct current fast-charging technology” for electric cars. As of June this year, Tesla has built nearly 4,000 stations worldwide (1,600 in the U.S.) with an average of nine chargers per station.

The stations are built for Tesla vehicles (models S, X, 3 and Y), but non-Tesla vehicles can charge with the use of an adapter. The company has announced plans to include more non-Tesla ports to encourage broader use of electric vehicles. The Biden Administration is aiming for the installation of 500,000 EV chargers in the U.S. by 2030.

The Sanford charging station is planned for the first quarter of 2023, according to the company’s site. The Spring Lane Galleria β€” anchored by Lowe’s Foods β€” saw the opening of a new Starbucks in September and has two vacancies for new businesses in that strip.
