Sanford police arrested a Charlotte man Monday after finding him in possession of more than 16 pounds of cocaine.

Flavio Ceasar Sandoval Romero, 27, of Charlotte faces charges of trafficking cocaine by possession, trafficking cocaine by transportation, conspiracy to traffic cocaine, and maintaining a vehicle for the keeping of a controlled substance.

According to police, the arrest stems from “an ongoing investigation into a large-scale trafficking organization.” The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol assisted.

According to the Lee County Jail website, Romero was booked on $500,000 secured bond.
