The Sanford Spinners on Tuesday unveiled a new logo and mascot ahead of the upcoming 2023 season and asked fans to suggest a name for the eight-legged creature.
The news was announced in a post on the team’s Facebook page:
The Spinners, named for a minor league team that played here between the 1930s and 1950s, are a collegiate level summer team playing in the Old North State League. The 2023 campaign – the team’s third – doesn’t start until June, but returning Head Coach Jeremy Palme said the roster is mostly finalized and will have a number of returning players.
“I would say this is going to be our most talented team so far,” he said.
The 2022 team had a league-best 21-8 record, but fell to the Pinehurst Bogeys in the second round of the league’s playoffs.
The Spinners play at Tramway Park adjacent to Southern Lee High School.
A male baseball team, with a male spider mascot, and they’re called the SPINNERS. Yet, male spiders don’t generally SPIN webs.
Thank you Bill Nye for the education!
Males do spin for courtship and sperm induction reasons so I would suggest that the correlation is therefore most accurate. Class dismissed….
It looks a little angry, would be a good Halloween theme
Geez, I hope Monkeypox isn’t a real teacher. Although it would explain why our education system is failing our youth.
Human males can also produce milk but ain’t nobody gonna use a man as a mascot for wet nurses.
Name him after John Spider Jorgensen, call the Spider JJ, He was a Brooklyn Dodger and a Veteran, great story
