The Sanford-Lee County Technical Review Committee will consider a proposal later this month that would see a largely run-down hotel on North Horner Boulevard be partially demolished and replaced with new temporary units and apartments.

Blue Chip Development of Sanford proposes to demolish part of the Sanford Inn at 1143 N. Horner Blvd., renovate the remaining portions, and add new construction which will total 120 “flex” units of both hotel rooms and apartments. That’s according to the agenda for the upcoming meeting of the Technical Review Committee on March 31.

The TRC is comprised of local officials from various city and county government entities representing Sanford, Lee County and Broadway, and meets monthly to review commercial proposals and major subdivisions for compliance with the codes and policies of various public service providers. Committee approval does not guarantee that projects submitted for review will be developed — only that they fall under compliance.

Blue Chip Development’s corporate address is nearby at 1217 N. Horner Blvd., the location of a Days Inn.

Another item on the March 31 agenda is the Campbell Creek subdivision, which is 98 proposed homes on several parcels of land totaling nearly 52 acres at the end of Sandy Creek Church Road off Cool Springs Road and parallel to U.S. 421.

The proposal of Campbell Creek comes a month after the TRC considered five new subdivisions totaling more than 800 new homes.

The March 31 agenda also includes a new Home2 Suites hotel on Amos Bridges Road, a proposal for a 4,800 square foot building on Lower Moncure Road for Mitchell Paving Company, and a proposed 3,055 square foot expansion of Pinehurst Medical Clinic’s cardiology clinic at 110 Fields Drive.
