Lee County High School announced Tuesday morning in a social media post that Paul B. Gay Stadium will be closed until further notice after cracks were discovered in the concrete supports underneath the bleachers at the stadium.
The school’s athletic calendar shows several home soccer and football games scheduled for the next two weeks that will presumably have to be rescheduled or canceled if the stadium can’t be used.
The Rant will provide updates as they become available.
The stadium is at least 50 years old and the supports have been in an humid environment that also experiences periodic hard freezing. Time for the county to get out the checkbook.
