Republican Kelly Daughtry announced Thursday that she was leaving the 14th Congressional District runoff and endorsing her opponent, fellow Republican Brad Knott, WRAL is reporting.
The move means Knott will be the GOP nominee for the heavily Republican seat which stretches over eight counties including Lee. Knott, a former federal prosecutor, will face Democrat Frank Price of Raleigh in November.
Early voting in the race had already begun, and it’s too late for election officials to remove Daughtry’s name from the ballot.
