The Lee Regional Fair opened Wednesday and will run through Sunday, September 15.

Now in its 86th year of being hosted by the Sanford Lions Club at the Fairgrounds on Weatherspoon Street, the fair supports local agriculture and promotes local farmers by helping them showcase their products and educate the public about the importance of agriculture in our community.

Attractions include outside and inside vendors, local bands and professional entertainment, magic shows, contests, pageants, agriculture displays, games of chance and a midway full of rides.

Admission is $5 and parking is free. On Sunday, visitors can bring three cans of nonperishable food as admission. Wristbands for rides can be purchased on the Midway.

The Fairground gates open to the public at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with rides beginning at 5 p.m. Gates close at midnight.

Gates open at noon on Saturday and close at midnight. Gates open at noon on Sunday and close at 7 p.m.

Profits from the Fair are used by the Sanford Lions Club to support its mission of helping the visually impaired and supporting local charities, including the Boys and Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw, Camp Dogwood, the Christians United Outreach Center, the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, Vision Van, Helping Hand Clinic, HAVEN in Lee County, Sanford Area Soccer League, VIP Fishing Tournament, Christmas Cheer donations, vision screening in local schools, and maintenance of the Fairgrounds.
