Local attorney Brad Salmon was appointed by Governor Roy Cooper to serve as District Court Judge for District 12 covering Lee, Harnett and Johnston counties.
“I am humbled by this appointment,” Salmon said. “It is an honor to again serve as a District Court Judge, and I will do my very best to promote justice and ensure confidence in our judicial system.”
Salmon fills the seat left vacant by Judge Michael Onufer, who resigned following his primary loss to Republican Brian Lewis. Lewis is running unopposed and will assume the seat following the November election.
“Brad Salmon’s previous experience in this role ensures he is a prepared and capable judge,” Cooper said in a press release. “I am grateful for his service to his community and his willingness to step up and serve the people as a District Court Judge.”
Salmon, a Democrat, was a founding partner of the Salmon Law Firm in Lillington. In 2015 and 2016, Salmon served in the North Carolina General Assembly representing Harnett and Lee Counties (District 51). Salmon was a previous District Court Judge and a 2022 candidate for the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Most recently he served as a Lee County Magistrate. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University and Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.

By my understanding, Mr Salmon is a good judge and doing a great job as a Lee County Magistrate. With Mr Lewis taking the seat in January though, I have to wonder if the benefit of having the district seat filled is worth the loss to Lee County. Unlike many NC counties, the Lee County Magistrate office operates 24/7/365. His departure leaves a HUGE hole in the Lee County Magistrate’s office, which is already understaffed due to resignations and retirements. There may be some nuance to the case load at the district level vs the immediate need in the trenches at the Magistrate level I am missing, but I wonder what is really going on here. Either way, best of luck to Mr Salmon and hopefully he will return to support Lee County when his short tenure as a District Judge ends.
Don’t worry, when Pfizer starts to get lawsuits and they come to his desk, he is in their pocket. Just think now Lee County has a judge in their pockets!!!
Any, by the way, there’s an ad, and that’s all it is, an ad, on this page, for the great work the Board of Education does, they are leaving out a couple of people, only putting the demon-c-rats on the ad. Please vote them out in November. Let’s take back Lee County and VOTE REPUBLICAN, some might be “good ole’ boyz” as well, but much better than the D party.
Roy Cooper has been in bed with the CCP and thank goodness we have the power in the state legislature to override his veto power.

Somebody should tell “C” that Republicans have been in control of the school board for 2 years now, and Republicans have been in control of county commissioners for 4 years now, and that Republicans are responsible for the largest property tax increase in the history of the county. Vote Democrat and take back Lee County from tax-and-spend Republicans!
