The Sanford-Lee County Planning Department’s Technical Review Committee will consider in October a proposal that would place 184 homes and more than 35,000 square feet of commercial space on Tramway Road.
Proposed on 32.59 acres near Tramway Road’s intersection with Bruce Coggins Road, the development would include 25 single family homes, 135 townhomes, and 24 multifamily units. Lot sizes would range from 1,680 square feet to 3,580 square feet.
The commercial space would face Tramway Road in front of the development.
The TRC is comprised of local officials from various city and county government entities representing Sanford, Lee County and Broadway, and meets monthly to review commercial proposals and major subdivisions for compliance with the codes and policies of various public service providers. Committee approval does not guarantee that projects submitted for review will be developed — only that they fall under compliance.
Several other proposals are on the TRC agenda for October. They include:
A new storage space on Chatham Street,
An urgent care clinic at the intersection of South Horner Boulevard and Jefferson Street,
A FirstHealth clinic at Bryan Drive and U.S. 1 in Tramway,
A new Circle K store on Broadway Road adjacent to the Lee County Athletic Park and the U.S. 421 Bypass, and
Three warehouse buildings at the intersection of Post Office and Colon roads.
No grocery store ??
No!!! Stop building
Sanford is being ruined by all this development. Where is the infrastructure to support this. STOP!!!!!!!!

Lots of seniors on fixed incomes had to move in with relatives after their rent went up where they could not pay it recently, this is sad !
Where are the things for the kids?!?!?!? This is crazy making everything else and the youth doesn’t have anything is just sad to me tbh
Be interested to see how they can make that stretch of a highway support all this traffic but this is going to bring the influx of traffic from Southern pines is ridiculous already in the mornings and afternoons

Public Input Period Open for Lee County Projects
SANFORD – The public is encouraged to review proposed improvements along the local U.S. 1/15-501 corridor and provide feedback that will be considered in the development of a pair of projects.
Addressing needs identified in the Lee County Comprehensive Transportation Plan, the N.C. Department of Transportation proposes the following side-by-side projects:
U-5975: Convert U.S. 1/15-501 to a reduced conflict intersection design between White Hill Road (U.S. 15-501) and south of Bryan Drive.
U-5727: Convert U.S. 1/15-501 to a reduced conflict intersection design from south of Bryan Drive to north of Carthage Street and improve the intersection at N.C. 78/Tramway Road.
Two alternatives are being considered for project U-5727:
Alternative 1 would relocate Tramway Road to a new alignment moving west from Bruce Coggins Road between the VA Outpatient Clinic and Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center, intersecting U.S. 1/15-501 across from Pendergrass Road.
Alternative 2 would relocate Tramway Road from about 2,000 feet east of Bruce Coggins Road moving west behind the VA Outpatient Clinic and Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center, also connecting to U.S. 1/15-501 at the Pendergrass Road intersection.
All this building is crazy. Taxes will skyrocket and our town be forever changed for the worse.
