A small plane crashed outside Sanford Monday afternoon, killing a family of four that was on board.

ABC11 News reported that Travis and Candace Buchanan, both 35, and their 9- and 10-year old children Walker and Aubrey were aboard a Cirrus SR22T that went down “in a field between Wallace Creek Lane and Riddle Road” around 2 p.m. Monday.
The crash site is roughly 8 miles south of the Raleigh Executive Jetport in northern Lee County.
The Buchanans owned Buchanan Farms in Broadway and its associated produce stand. In a Facebook post from 2022, the family wrote that they hoped the farm would “be a place where the community will love to stop by and visit us at and pick up some locally grown produce and supplies for your own gardens. We look forward to meeting you all and seeing you soon!”

After the crash, several in Lee County posted on social media about the family, including Grace Christian School, where the Buchanan children were currently enrolled.
“During this incredibly difficult time, we stand together in support of their family and one another. We extend our love, prayers and deepest condolences to their family, friends, classmates, teachers and staff,” the school wrote on Facebook. “Let us honor their memory with compassion and love.”

I would like to share with the readers of my families personal experience with the Buchanan family.
In 2018 my Father in Law passed away unexpectedly in his sleep. He had no life insurance. My Father in law owned his own business and did a lot of work for Travis and they considered one another as friends.
Travis paid for my father in laws funeral. We didn’t have to ask, he didn’t even ask us to pay him back, he just did it, because that’s the type of person that he was, and that’s the type of person that he should be remembered as.
The Buchanan family will remain in my prayers for the foreseeable future.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” Matthew 5:4
You are so correct in your beautiful words you have shared this family will be missed for a very long time. Hugs to those family members and friends that are left to wonder why.
