The Sanford Spinners will play their first home game of 2026 on their new field at Lee County High School at 7 p.m. on Friday against the Clayton Clovers.
The Spinners, who play in the collegiate level Old North State League, go into their home opener with a 2-2 record overall. They won their season opener on May 23 against the Danville Dairy Daddies 8-6, lost 5-6 against Clayton on May 28, lost 5-7 against Danville on May 29, and beat the Chatham County Yardbirds 16-6 on May 31.
The Spinners also play at home on Saturday and Sunday. All three of this weekend’s games are against Danville.
The Spinners’ 2-2 division record puts them in third place in the five-team Piedmont Division, behind Clayton (5-0) and the Wake Forest Fungo (4-1).
The Spinners will play for the first time Friday at Lee County High School after spending their first several season at Tramway Park adjacent to Southern Lee High School.
The move came with an investment in the facility by the team, who funded new backstop netting, batting cage netting and pitching tunnel netting – upgrades that will be available to the Lee County High School Yellow Jackets. The 2026 season also comes with the addition of new General Manager Tom Andor, a retired Army veteran and native of St. Francis, Minnesota who played baseball in college.
But there’s plenty of excitement expected on the field as well, according to Head Coach Jeremy Palme. Palme said there were still some roster spots to be filled as of late April, but “a decent amount of returning players” as well.
“(The home opener weekend) will be a three-game homestand to kick off the season,” team owner Al Anderson told The Rant in May, explaining that Friday’s game will be sponsored by Cornerstone K9 of Sanford, and will feature the debut of Mickey the Bat Dog (Mickey’s predecessor Murphy “got called up to the big leagues,” Anderson joked). Saturday will be Central Carolina Hospital Night, and Sunday will be Community Heroes night and feature appearances by local first responders.
Anderson said the team is bringing in a new food vendor for 2026, in line with his stated goal of “creating a fan experience” Other upgrades for the season will include a hospitality tent, the installation of cameras capable of streaming games, a new PA announcer, and even the introduction of a team chaplain.
