The Sanford Spinners won two out of three over their home opener weekend, improving their record to 4-3 and maintaining their position at third place in the Old North State League’s Piedmont Division.

The Spinners entered the weekend, their first at Lee County High School after several years playing at Tramway Park adjacent to Southern Lee High School, with a 2-2 record.

They dropped Friday’s game to the division-leading Clayton Clovers 5-1. But they bounced back with wins on Saturday (12-2) and Sunday (8-7) over the Danville Dairy Daddies.

The Spinners have Monday off and return to action Tuesday with a road game against Clayton. They’re back at home on Wednesday for an inter-division game against the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys, and another home game against the Raleigh Red Oaks scheduled for Friday. The team’s remaining home schedule is at the bottom of this story; all home games start at 7 p.m.

The Old North State League’s teams are made up of college players from across the country. The Spinners, named for a minor league team that played in Sanford in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. The new iteration of the team has been playing in the ONSL since 2021.
