The Sanford Spinners went 2-2 over the last week to remain in third place in the Old North State League’s Piedmont Division.
The Spinners were on the road on June 9 against the division-leading Clayton Clovers and lost 10-4, and then dropped a non-division game at home on June 10 to the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys 13-11. But the team had back-to-back wins on Friday (7-2) against the Raleigh Red Oaks at home and Saturday (12-7) against the Wake Forest Fungo on the road.
The Spinners have a 6-4 division record, which puts them just behind Wake Forest (9-3) and Clayton (10-3).
The Spinners now kick off a four-game home stretch, taking on Clayton on Monday, Raleigh on Tuesday, the Danville Dairy Daddies on Wednesday, and the Carolina White Sox (non division) on Thursday. All home games, played at Lee County High School, begin at 7 p.m.
The team closes out the week with road games against Raleigh on Friday, Danville on Saturday, and Raleigh again on Sunday.
The Old North State League’s teams are made up of college players from across the country. The Spinners are named for a minor league team that played in Sanford in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. The new iteration of the team has been playing in the ONSL since 2021.
