Dunkin’ Donuts could be coming to Sanford in the very near future.
Pinehurst Donuts, LLC — led by Ken Baer and Pat Corso — began opening chains of the popular bakery and coffee spot in the Sandhills in 2011, announcing at that time plans to expand to Sanford by 2016.
Corso, who spoke to the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Public Policy Luncheon today on tourism and how this year’s U.S. Opens will affect the region economically, told The Rant last week they are currently looking at potential sites for a future store, but “nothing is imminent.”
“We believe Sanford is a potentially great market for a Dunkin Donuts restaurant,” he said.
Pinehurst Donuts signed an agreement with Dunkin in 2010 that gives it exclusive franchise rights in Cumberland, Moore, Lee, Harnett and Hoke counties through 2016. While Sanford is experiencing economic growth and the addition of new restaurants along N.C. 87 near WalMart, it’s possible Dunkin would consider a location on U.S. 1 in the Tramway area, which recently opened a new Bojangles restaurant and a CVS pharmacy.
