Sanford planners are “talking with architects for Buffalo Wild Wings” about a potential new location in the brick capital, a well-placed observer reported from Tuesday’s city council meeting.
While that’s not exactly a binding contractual agreement, it’s clearly more solid than the “totally unsubstantiated rumor mill” status the Rant afforded the possibility of a Sanford Buffalo Wild Wings on its speculative “new businesses report” back in February.
Sources at the city council meeting said the company is eying areas near the south end of the U.S. 421/N.C. 87 corridor, so a location there could draw from Lee County as well as western Harnett County. That’s in line with much of the new business development in Sanford, including a Hobby Lobby store going up near Dunham’s Sports and Big Lots.
Also, a significant tract of land at U.S. 1 and Tramway Road has been cleared for development and is currently anchored by a lone Bojangle’s. Rumors, though, have linked a number of other chain restaurants and big box stores to that site.
While Sanford doesn’t lack for great wings (or places to watch the football game or other SPORTS EVENT) at any number of locally-owned restaurants, it’s a safe bet that a Buffalo Wild Wings might be a hit amongst locals given our collective love of mass market chain restaurants. Now can we get a Target already OMG amirite?
Even though Sanford has places where you can eat decent wings, I totally disagree that you can watch most college sports here. Most all local establishments only carry extended basic cable which basically only includes the normal national networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox) and possibly ESPN and ESPN2. They don’t spend the extra money on Dish or a “sports package” that includes networks like the 3 extended ESPN stations, 4 extended Fox Sports stations, CBS College sports, SEC network, Big 10 network, NFL network or NFL Red Zone. Most local “sports bars” may have one or two small TV’s and other restaurant type places may have a couple of TV’s in the bar area only. Even Applebees has a few more TV’s than most, but normally carry no more than 2 different events at a time. I would greatly welcome a true sports establishment like Buffalo Wild Wings that is totally geared towards the sports fan who wishes to see their favorite team on a big screen or a multiple TV “near by my table” of friends on an “off” channel that most people can not get at home. I would have to assume that this type establishment would go over extremely well in this area since there would be very little to no competition compared to what Buffalo Wild Wings could offer.
As to the above mentioned local TV packages (or lack thereof), guess what ECU-UNC fans ?? There would be no local establishment in which you could watch today’s important game since it will be broadcast on ESPNU !! The best place for great wings and ANY televised college football game is at my very own home. This makes me wonder if a place like Buffalo Wild Wings would do well in Lee County since our residents have been forced to do what I have done — make our homes the best place to see a game for the real true sports fan.
I was completely unaware and assumed there was a huge lack of places to get wings. Where r you talking about. I am confused.
Target! Target! Target! PLEEEEEEEEEZ!
Got a to go order from the one in Southern Pines. Wasn’t impressed with the wings.
Got some very good wings from Café Vesuvio of all places the other day.
Carolina Ale House has great wings. Wish they would come to Lee County. Popeyes wouldn’t be bad either.
I had to go to Carolina Ale House in Cary Saturday in order to See ECU play on ESPNU. No establishment here in Sanford carries that channel. Ale House is an excellent sports place. They have the best food of any “sports bar” in NC. The atmosphere is great and we had our own section and large HD TV to view the game. Would love to see something like that in Sanford — but doubt it would be supported enough to make it.
I honestly think we should get a Texas Roadhouse in tramway and a Starbucks by the new dunhams and a Krispy Kreme where Wendy’s used to be and a arcade place for kids so they will stay out of trouble we need something where the hams used to be aswell
Yes I agree!! Also a Target!!!! Lol
